This site is for blogging about The Merrie Monarch Festival.The Merrie Monarch Festival was created by George Na’ope and has been organized and run by Dorothy Thompson (Auntie Dottie) for many years.    The title Merrie Monarch is in honor of Kind David Kalakau who reinstated and supported hula.  This is an extraordinary event.  Judges pay attention to the dancers’ steps, costumes which should also relate to the topic of the song with appropriate colors, lei choices, and accuracy and pronunciation of the Hawaain language.  For more information about the Merrie Monarch see the the festival’s homepage and other links listed:
